Overview
We have two methods of adding breaks to your appointment books in Core Practice, both are used for different reasons. In this article, we will use the two methods to create a break in the appointment book by going through two different cases. The two cases are:
Portion of the day
When you need to block a portion of the day due to a provider running late or leaving early, you can do this with the "Insert Break" function. This would be used for blocking a few hours of the day, where they dentist will continue to be working for the rest of the day and therefore their appointment books need to stay opened. Here's how to do it.
Entire Day or Longer
When a provider calls in sick, one of the first things to do is to block the entire day's availabilities in order to prevent new appointments being booked in. Instead of filling all the availabilities with a "Break", we could just remove the availability for that entire day. Similarly, when a provider takes extended leave, it would be useful if there were a way that you could block an entire length of time. We have created that capability in the Calendar Setup; here's how to do it.
- Click on Appointment, More and then Calendar Setup.
- Search for the provider's name in the search bar (a) and then click on the checkbox (b) next to the provider's name.
- Navigate to the correct date by using the arrows (a) or the calendar (b).
- Click on the block and then click Not Available.
- Fill in the relevant details and then click Save Changes.
If it is just a single day of unavailability, simply put the "End" date as the following day; it will only count the single day as leave.
If the provider is taking leave from Friday 30th September and returns to work on Monday 10th October, your "Start" date would be 30/09/2016 and your "End" date would be 09/10/2016.
